Milling clamps for Mini-mills |
A set of simple clamps for mini-mills, it is using a thread rod for the balance support and can be fine adjusted to the suitable height for holding a work piece on the milling table. |

Materials, a piece of 3/4" X 3/8" carbon steel bar. Any kind of steel will work, a 1018 carbon steel bar is used, and two pieces of thread rods, 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16. |

Cut 2 sets of thread rods for each clamp, 3 pieces are cut from the 3/8"-16 thread rod of 2", 3" and 4" long, and 3 pieces are cut from the 1/4"-20 thread rod with about 2.25", 3.25" and 4.25" long. |
The steel bar is used for making the clamps and T-nuts. Two pieces of 3" long for the clamps and two pieces of 0.75" long for the T-nuts. The clamp is tapped with a 3/8"-16 threaded hole at 0.5" from one end, and mill a slot hole of 1/4" X 1.25". The other end is made with a slightly reduced size. The width of the T-slot on the mini-mill table is 19 mm, 3/4" T-nut will just fit into the slot. The T-nuts are tapped with a 1/4"-20 threaded hole at the center. |

This is a setup of a 1/4" thick work piece. The work piece is rase up by a set of 1-2-3 blocks that the end mill can reach to the work piece. |

The
clamp is made by a 1018 0.25" X 0.625" steel bar. A 1/4"-20
threaded hole is tapped on 3/8" from one end, the slot hole
is 0.19" X 1". The support thread rods are 1/4"-20, 3 pieces are cut with 1", 2" and 3" length. The #10-32 thread rod can not be found, using 1", 2" and 2.5" screws instead by removing the screw head. The T-nuts are made by a 1018 0.5" X 0.375" steel bar. The short T-nut is about 0.3" height. The tall T-nut is about 1" tall, it is turned into a round section with about 0.375" in diameter and is tapped with a #10-32 threaded bind hole. |
